We all have a responsibility to leave our community in a better condition than when we entered it.We work hard to further that motto at Williamsburg Estate Services.
Williamsburg Estate Services is an avid supporter of the United Way of Greater Williamsburg, from supplying furniture needed for re-entry homes and the Home For Good program (which provides needed homes for families living in hotels) to providing monetary support for their food distribution program. In addition, Laura serves as a Community Investment Committee leader for the UWGW, helping volunteers evaluate applications for United Way-funded programs.
Last summer, WES held a canned food drive to benefit FISH, the local charity that provides so much for people in need. FISH provides food, hygiene and cleaning products, clothing, and small housewares to persons in need in the greater Williamsburg area. Clients are referred for service by local agencies that know their needs. We asked each of our shoppers to bring an item of canned food to benefit FISH and, in return, the shoppers could enter the sale 1/2 hour early. The results were amazing! We filled the FISH car twice! We’ll do this again soon.
Faith in Action fosters caring relationships between volunteers and members of the Greater Williamsburg area who are elderly, disabled or with long-term health needs. Faith in Action’s mission is to help elderly, chronically ill, and disabled adults maintain their independence and dignity by providing them assistance with everyday activities. Starting in 2010, WES has held a Charity Estate Sale to benefit Williamsburg Faith in Action which, to date, has raised more than $5,000 for this worthy cause.
Since 2012, Laura has been a member of the Board of Managers of the R. F. Wilkinson YMCA in Williamsburg and is currently the Chairwoman. The YMCA is a vital asset to the communities it serves. It provides programs like before- and after-school child care, preschool, day camps, swimming and swim lessons, family activities, sports for adults and children, art programs, health and exercise, specialty programs for teens and older adults, and many more programs that help make that community an even nicer place to live and raise families. All YMCA programs are developed around the core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
The Habitat for Humanity ReStore is a building materials warehouse that accepts donations of new and gently-used goods. The goal of the ReStore is to generate enough profits to build one Habitat house each year, as well as to promote recycling. When the estate sale is over and the majority of the items have been sold or sent to consignment, there is always something left. WES takes these remaining items to Williamsburg’s Habitat ReStore, which benefits our clients with a tax write off and helps someone else get a house they may otherwise not have.
